The seventh volume of the editorial series L’opera italiana nei territori boemi durante il Settecento comprises papers from the conference L’opera italiana come un evento festivo, held in September 2021 in Český Krumlov as part of the Festival of Baroque Arts. The conference was organized in connection with the performance of Antonio Draghi’s serenata L’oblighi dell’Universo (1680), originally composed for the celebration of Emperor Leopold I’s birthday and revived on this occasion at the château in Pardubice. The volume comprises contributions by scholars from Italy (Paologiovanni Maione, Lorenzo Mattei), Germany (Karl Böhmer, Wolfgang Hochstein, Gesa zur Nieden), Austria (Elisabeth Hilscher, Konstantin Hirschmann, Jürgen Maehder), and the Czech Republic (Stanislav Bohadlo, Milada Jonášová, Tomislav Volek). Their studies address the concept of festivity as a central category in the analysis of Italian opera within the framework of both courtly and urban theatrical cultures of early modern Europe.
