The volume contains the papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Italian Opera in Bohemia in the Eighteenth Century, held in September 2020 under the title L’opera italiana – tra l’originale e il pasticcio. The practice of so-called pasticci, that is, operas assembled around a theatrically attractive subject—usually by a local theatrical impresario—from successful arias taken from previously performed operas, represented a distinctive phenomenon of eighteenth-century Italian opera. At a time when copyright law did not yet exist, this practice was common and widely accepted. Twelve contributions from researchers in Germany, Italy, Poland, and the Czech Republic focus on the performance of pasticci across Europe.
