100 Treasures, 100 Stories
Collecting and admiration for antiquities have deep roots in Chinese culture. As early as ancient times, objects from the distant past were valued as bearers of ideal beauty, moral values, and ancestral legacy. A tradition of antiquarian study soon began to develop—combining an interest in history, the aesthetic appreciation of objects, and respect for ancient cultural heritage. The scholarly elite collected ancient bronze vessels, jades, calligraphy scrolls, and paintings. These very treasures are examined in detail in the catalogue for the exhibition 100 Treasures, 100 Stories, created in cooperation between the National Museum in Prague and the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
